The Mascarene Islands are an island chain discovered in the Indian Ocean in 1512 by the Portuguese navigator Pedro Mascarenhas. They are about 850 km east of Madagascar around the 20th southern latitude in the Indian Ocean. These include the French Reunion Department of La Réunion, the island of Mauritius, the island of Rodrigues belonging to Mauritius and the Atoll Saint Brandon (Cargados Carajos Shoals). The islands are located on a submarine plateau and are of volcanic origin. Due to their remote location and the fact that they were never connected to the mainland, the masks have a very unusual animal world with a high proportion of endemic species. The rich in fish and biodiversity have been the reason for our travels in this area for 30 years. We have put together some pictures and reports and hope you enjoy reading them.
